Haiku Canada Regions
British Columbia and Territories
This region comprises British Columbia, the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The region has a wonderful a.k.a coined by Haiku Canada member Anna Vakar:
Pacifi-kana. However, Pacifi-kana more accurately
refers to an affiliated network of haiku poets connected via an email list that the
Haiku Canada regional coordinator oversees. Not all members of the
Pacifi-kana email list are members of Haiku Canada,
and vice versa. List members are invited to join Haiku Canada.
Haiku Canada members in the region (and beyond) are invited to join the
Pacifi-kana email list.
Recent services and activity in this region have included:
- a free, inclusive email list that provides list-member news and information about haiku-related
events in the region and neighbouring regions, as well as key Haiku Canada events
- an annual weekend gathering in July on Gabriola Island, since 2002
- active participation in, and contribution to, the haiku components of the
Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, since 2006
- Haiku Canada conference, hosted at the University of British Columbia in 2006 and 2009
Affiliated activity to note:
Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival Haiku Invitational – an annual,
international haiku contest. For more information about submitting haiku or to read from the archives,
Vancouver Haiku Group – meets the third Sunday of the month from
September to November and January to June. For more information, contact facilitator Angela J.
For further information and to join the email list, contact the regional coordinator Vicki McCullough
